About the Committee
The Hiking & Mountaineering Society of SVKM’s Mithibai College comprises nature-loving students and faculty members passionate about exploring the Sahyadri ranges and other scenic trails. The Society regularly organizes:
- Vacation treks during Diwali and Christmas breaks (2–3 day semi-range treks)
The aim is to promote adventure, fitness, and a deep respect for nature among students.
Vision
To inspire a lifelong love for nature, adventure, and responsible exploration, nurturing physically fit, environmentally conscious, and socially aware individuals through trekking and mountaineering activities.
Mission
- To provide students with safe, inclusive, and enriching trekking experiences that promote fitness, resilience, and teamwork.
- To foster respect for the environment and encourage sustainable and responsible trekking practices.
- To develop leadership, decision-making, and self-reliance through real-world exposure to natural and rural settings.
- To strengthen social bonds and create a vibrant community of nature enthusiasts within the college.
Objectives of the Society
- To encourage students to experience adventure and develop a deep connection with nature.
- To promote physical fitness and enhance mental well-being through trekking activities.
- To foster friendship, teamwork, and leadership qualities among participants.
- To provide students with exposure to rural life and its challenges, thereby enhancing social awareness.
- To help students adapt to real-world travel conditions by using basic public transport (e.g., state transport buses) in remote areas.
- To promote safe, responsible, and environmentally conscious trekking practices.
- To encourage self-reliance, decision-making, and adaptability in unpredictable situations.
Eligibility
- Open to all Mithibai College students (Junior and Degree College).
- No prior trekking experience is required. However, students with prior trekking experience may be given preference for vacation treks.
- Limited seats are available for each trek, hence early application is encouraged.
Announcement and Application
- Trek notices are published on the college website and displayed on notice boards 2–3 weeks prior to the event.
- Application forms are collected on a first-come, first-served basis by the designated faculty member.
The application form includes:
- Student’s personal details
- Student’s and Parent’s consent
- Medical fitness declaration
- Undertaking of trek rules and instructions
- A mandatory pre-trek orientation will cover safety measures, rules, and essential instructions.
